Field tests

The product is in field-test beta. These are the field sessions run so far, with what each one showed.

  • About 2.5 hours over the lake; antenna ~3.20 m above the water; waves ~0.20 m. The RH search maximum was left at 5 m on purpose.
  • Purpose: first look at real arcs over water with the live inspector.
  • Outcome: plenty of long, clean oscillations visible live; on the unit, every closed arc was rejected (arcs ended by a data gap). The session drove several fixes: early results for long arcs, durable history across restarts, a robust detrend against signal drop-outs, reopenable passes, automatic logging over USB.
  • Anomaly found here and since fixed: satellite C32 ended its pass with an abrupt block of very low C/N0 that biased the detrend. Edge blocks like this are now detected and trimmed automatically, on the unit and in the app (the C32 case).

  • Two spots on the west shore, morning and afternoon.
  • Unit on the lake-side wall with the laptop running the field console; power bank for long runs.

  • Lake-side wall in Lugano; reference taken with a tape measure from the antenna to the water.
  • The unit’s satellite report reached Cloudloop at 16:46 UTC: water distance 2.276 m, spread 27 mm, 11 arcs used of 11 over 15:41–16:13 UTC.
  • First end-to-end proof of the satellite delivery chain.
  • Still to do: compare 2.276 m with the tape reference (reading and antenna phase-centre offset).

The tape measure is the antenna height reference.

TestGoal
Bench, 15-min Campaign with a real Iridium reportWhole autonomous chain before field use
Lake, 60-min autonomous Campaign + one 1-h normal sessionField proof of acquisition → saving → delivery
72 h on the bench without a PCReal acquisitions and sends, controlled disconnects and resets
7–14 days at an accessible siteCompare measurements, consumption, resets and reports received
Tester distributionExact version, recovery instructions, declared limits

For each field test, record what the site checklist lists: site and photos, antenna height reference (time, method, uncertainty), firmware and app versions, the configuration read from the unit, exports (session JSON/CSV), the Cloudloop messages, weather and waves.
