Firmware update

Maintenance → Firmware → Check, download and update. The app compares the unit’s firmware with the one it carries and with the release channel; when the unit is up to date it can still reinstall the verified image.

After the download is verified the app asks to confirm: type UPDATE. You can cancel until the copy starts.

Maintenance page showing a completed firmware update with all steps passed

A completed update on a test unit: every step passed; configuration preserved; backup of configuration, identity, status, 42 records and the full flash image saved.

The guided update runs these steps, each shown with its result:

  1. Check the image: RP2350 ARM Secure format, flash window, SHA-256.

  2. Back up the unit: configuration, identity, status and every stored record are saved on the computer first.

  3. Reboot the unit into BOOTSEL (its bootloader).

  4. Wait for the unit to save its results, then for exactly one RP2350 bootloader: a unit in the middle of a session ends it and saves everything it holds in memory first (usually seconds, at most a few minutes).

  5. Save the full 4 MiB flash image (when the picotool helper is available): a complete copy for recovery.

  6. Copy the image to the bootloader volume.

  7. Wait for the same unit to come back (same serial number).

  8. Check the new firmware identity (version and build hash).

  9. Compare the configuration with the backup.

During the update each step turns green when done; the current one is highlighted.

The final line says which firmware runs on which unit, that the configuration was preserved and what was backed up. Results stay on the unit.

Done: every step green and the final line with firmware, unit and backup.

If something fails, the app says at which step and what to do. The unit always has a way back: holding the BOOT button while switching it on enters the bootloader (the procedure), and the update can be repeated.
