What to bring
Section titled “What to bring”- reflexa micro unit (installed with reflexa micro firmware: first installation), battery charged, solar panel and cabling
- mounting bracket, clamps or bolts for a wall, pole or bridge
- laptop with the field console installed and charged (power bank for long runs)
- data-capable USB-C cable (and a spare)
- map data pack on a USB stick (optional, for offline lake shores)
- tape measure for the antenna height above the water (optional: an estimate by eye is enough)
- phone or camera for photos; notebook
- the configuration file saved from the last visit, if any
- Choose the spot: open water in front, no wall, railing, tree or building between 5° and 45° of elevation toward the water, nor around the reflection zones on the water: the map’s terrain shadow does not show buildings or trees (site requirements).
- Mount the unit firmly; the antenna must not move.
- Measure the antenna height above the water with a tape if it is easy, otherwise estimate it by eye (antenna height).
- Connect the unit; check the status bar is green and the clock valid.
- Station: position Auto, sectors toward the water, elevation 5°–45°, antenna height, search range Auto; Save to station.
- Schedule: preset and Iridium sending; save.
- Live: satellites in every sector, mostly green; first arcs pass (verify live).
- Maintenance: Check modem (no traffic); check the battery.
- Watch the LEDs for 30 seconds after disconnecting: a short green flash every 5 s means running (status LEDs).
